Author Interview: Laura Barnard & Book Review: "Cock & Bull"

Book: "Cock & Bull"

Author: Laura Barnard

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was when Laura Barnard found me on Instagram and asked me to be part of her new book release, "Cock & Bull". It was one of those moments when my heart hit my throat and my stomach hit the ground; one of those surreal moments you remember forever. Luckily for me I got to be part of the cover reveal and the release. It was such a fun experience and Laura is such a nice person. I can only imagine how silly she thought I probably was fangirling out in my emails! Below you will find my review of her book and some questions she was kind enough to answer!

Review:

What would you do if you found out you inherited a bar from your eccentric great Aunt?

Phoebe and Ella are sisters living in England when they find out that they have indeed inherited a bar from their great Aunt Breda and it’s in Ireland. So with a meager savings the girls pack up and head to their new abode. They soon find out that it’s far from ideal. What follows are a series of unfortunate events that leave the girls questioning whether they should stick it out or admit defeat and sell.

Dreamy and tattooed Clooney is no stranger to running a bar, it’s in his blood you could say. He soon finds himself smitten with strait laced Phoebe, their chemistry undeniable. Clooney has secrets and a past, can he get out of his own way enough to let Phoebe break through his walls?

Check out "Cock & Bull" from bestselling author Laura Barnard. It’s not you average lovey, dovey rom-com. It’s quick witted and heavy on the sarcasm. You will find yourself laughing out loud! Such a refreshing read in a world of bubblegum love.

I mentioned their pet skunk Suki and the ghosts…...right???

Q & A with Laura

1. How do you find inspiration for your books?

Laura: "Sometimes I have dreams, other times stories from friends will have me thinking 'what if'?"

2. Do you plan out your characters and their journey before writing or is it more organically built?

Laura: "I plan out my characters quite a lot before I develop the story line. Once I have them built its easier to see what they'd do in certain situations and that tends to build the story".

3. I also love tea and yoga pants! If you could have tea with anyone who would you choose?

Laura: "Ooh maybe author Lindsey Kelk? I met her briefly at a book signing in Soho and she was so lovely and hilarious. I think we'd have a good giggle".

4. I have to know how did Suki come about?! Not even gonna lie I want a pet skunk now!!!!

Laura: "I wanted them to inherit a funny pet and I was googling different animals and then read that skunks can be house pets if their anal glands are removed. I thought perfect - I knew Phoebe would be disgusted at the thought of it".

5. Of all the books you've written, which is your favorite?

Laura: "That's like asking me to choose between my children! I seem to have a different one each week but right now I'd say Once Upon a Wish-mas.

6. If Cock and Bull became a movie who would play the leading characters? I feel like Emilia Clarke would be a great Phoebe. lol

Laura: "Ooh she would! In my head Phoebe was Amanda Seyfried and Clooney was a more rugged Adam Levine. Ella could be Emilia Clarke".

7. If you were not an author what do you think you would be doing?

Laura: "I have a day job of running my own dog boarding business from home. So, I get to cuddle puppies by day and write by night".

8. "Cock and Bull" has some steamy scenes! You build tension so well, do you find these scenes hard to write?

Laura: "I generally find sex scenes a nightmare to write and didn't have them in my first two books, but people asked me to include them. Saying that, the scenes from Cock and Bull came very easily to me. One of them I even dreamt and knew I had to put it in".

9. I laughed out loud so many times and fell in love with the characters. Who was your favorite to write? Phoebe was my favorite! I related very much to her.

Laura: "I loved to write Clooney. He had so many different layers to him that he kept hidden from the world".

10. Why did Aunt Breda wait until the very end to let Phoebe know she was there?

Laura: "I think because she didn't want to interfere. She wanted Phoebe and Clooney to do the distance without any interference. After a life time of ghosts bossing her around she didn't want to do the same to Phoebe. She wanted them to find each other organically and decide for themselves to spend their life together".

*A huge thank you to Laura Barnard for letting me be part of this and writing an amazing book that gave me all the feels and made me laugh out loud. I loved every minute!
